Chennai, Aug 10: Continuing the blame games, J Jayalalithaa, Chief Minister, Tamil Nadu blamed the DMK government for appointing atheists in various temples across the state and have asked them to immediately step down from their position.

“The then minority DMK government had appointed those without faith in god as trustees of the temples and members of the temple administration committees. After coming to power, we have asked them to resign," said Jayalalithaa.

She further said that new trustees will be appointed soon in temples. Responding to an issue raised by Chandra Kumar, DMDK legislator that the previous appointed trustees by DMK should be restructured, Jayalalithaa also added that the previous appointed trustees have also resigned and said that action will be taken against those still holding the office.

“Wherever required, the government will take up temple renovation and hold consecration ceremonies," she said.

The government had reserved Rs 22.5 crore for renovation of 89 temples this year. The AIADMK also tried to enhance the amount under fixed deposit.
