Prayers offered, pongal distributed for Sonia's recovery

Puducherry, Aug 9: Special prayers were offered for the speedy recovery of Congress president Sonia Gandhi at Manakkula Vinayagar Temple on Aug 8 by party workers and leaders in Union Territory.

'Sweet Pongal' was distributed among the party members and devotees who were present at the temple.

Foreigners stood watching in amazement after the party members offered temple elephant a bottle of soft drink.

Among the one's who were present during the prayers included V Vaithilingam, ex-chief minister and other congress leaders, who offered prayers at the Periyar Nagar Pillaiyar Koil on Aug 7.

Meanwhile, there are reports that in the absence of Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, AICC general secretary will hoist the flag at Congress headquarters in New Delhi.

Rahul Gandhi, who is still in the US with his mother will be back by this weekend, said sources.

Sonia Gandhi, who underwent a surgery on Aug 4 has been moved out of the ICU and her condition is said to be stable.

Sources also informed that if the AICC President fails to return back before Aug 15, then other senior party member like Motilal Vora is likely to unfurl the flag.
