Water woes: Kolkata rains turn deadly, 2 dead, many injured

Kolkata, Aug 8: After a long rainless week, Kolkata, the capital city of West Bengal, finally got released when it observed a heavy shower on Saturday, Aug 6. However, the people of the city faced wrath of the weather god when heavy rains turned deadly.

Two people - 35-year-old Zahira Khatun and a person in Debpukur in Titagarh reportedly died and more than eight people were seriously injured in the several parts of the city.

The city witnessed a heavy rainfall on Sunday between 9 am to 3 pm and according the MeT office, the state along with its neighbour states will suffer for the next two days.

"The cyclonic circulation responsible for the weekend showers is likely to intensify over the next two days, bringing more rainfall to the city. The circulation could become a low-pressure area by Monday," MeT department officials informed.
