"The idea is to utilise the popularity of social networking sites among students. Most of them spend a lot of time on such websites every day," a senior official of the state's information technology department, said.
Officials said that the new website will offer fun and educational tips. Just like other social networking sites Facebook or Google Plus, students can open their account, add friends, upload images, interact with others and play games.
Moreover, the site will offer subject-specific links on its home page and students can learn different subjects and topics from these sites. Also, the site will offer e-books, objective questions and coaching material related to each subject.
Officials behind the plan and NGOs working with the project urged government and school authorities to join the site when it's launched. Currently, the site is in final development stage and is expected to launch by mid-Sep 2011.
