City ended its 35-year trophy drought by first beating Manchester United in the semi-finals of the FA Cup before eventually going on to win the trophy.
Sir Alex Ferguson's side other loss at the Wembley came against Barcelona in the finals of the UEFA Champions League.
The game, according to analysts will be more of a test for United than City because of a recovering squad from its preseason tour of the United States as well as due to the absence of a few stars who are away on international duty. But despite, the low profile of the Community Shield, United are expected to be up in intensity for the clash against their arch rivals.
It is also expected that will take a stock of their players ahead of the EPL season.
Wayne Rooney, the Manchester United striker was quoted by Four Four Two magazine as saying, "You couldn't get better motivation to start the season with a bang. I hadn't even thought about it until I turned on the TV and someone was talking about potentially the best Community Shield ever. Playing City is the best way to start."
But Sir Alex Ferguson is not attaching too much of an importance to the match. He was quoted as saying, "It's very easy to get emotional about this type of game. I don't think we'll be changing our policy. I've always viewed the Community Shield as a stepping stone for the first game of the season and there are two or three players who will need a game (to boost fitness levels)."
