San Francisco, Aug 6: A new study found that Google's latest invention Google+ may surpass micro-blogging site Twitter and professional network LinkedIn to become the largest social networking site in United States by 2012.

The study conducted by YouGov US Opinion Center found that nearly 13 percent of the adults in US has joined in Google Plus and the penetration will go up by 22 percent in next 12 months. This figures estimated that Google+ will overcome Twitter and LinkedIn with estimated growth rate of 3 percent and 2 percent respectively.

According to the study, currently world's largest social networking site Facebook has 71 percent of penetration in US, LinkedIn has 19 percent, Twitter with 18 percent, Myspace has 14 percent and Google Plus, with 25 million registered around the world, has 13 percent.

Interestingly, the survey also found that nearly 30 percent of Facebook users are already joined Google+ and most of them will ditch Facebook to stay on Google+.

"Google+ is tracing a path similar to Facebook"s initial growth – building excitement in a core group of early adopters," said Michael Nardis, Head of YouGov Investment Products. "For Facebook, it was college students. For Google+, that path is young, educated, single men who are heavy internet users."
