Unhappy team Anna threatens to burn government's lokpal bill
Team Anna and his supporters claimed that the anti-corruption law-making body will not be able to take on corruption in its present form.
"To protest the unilateral, high handed decision of the Government, the copies of the bill will be burnt from today," said Arvind Kejriwal, RTI activist.
Hazare who is trying to seek support for his lokpal bill has also written a letter to the Members of Parliament alleging that the government's version of lokpal is weak.
The Congress however said that the civil society should have faith in parliament and not burn the copies.
"Let there be fire in the belly, fire in the heart and not in Parliament. Let's not burn copies. Let's have faith in Parliament," said Salman Khurshid, Union law Minister.
Meanwhile, the lokpal bill is also under severe criticism from the opposition as leaders feel that the bill ought to be made stronger. BJP has also been supporting the claim that the Prime Minister be made a part of the bill and come under the lokpal ambit.
"For judiciary, there is a separate accountability bill. Judiciary can be kept separate. They say action can not be taken till the time one is the prime minister. What happens if one comes back as the prime minister after two years. Will the proceedings against him stop? This is a weak bill," said BJP leader Yashwant Sinha.
Questioning the selection of the committee, he said, "We have seen in the selection of the Central Vigilance Commissioner there can be grave mistakes. Government can not be given complete responsibility."
"Even I agree the Lokpal bill which is be presented today is weak. I have received Anna's letter. I agree the Lokpal bill should be stronger," he added.
