Siwan, Aug 2: Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty and Hollywood actor Richard Gere got entangled in a fresh controversy for hurting the Indian and Bhojpuri culture by showing an indecent programme.

Court of the First Class Magistrate, Siwan, Hare Ram, on Monday, Aug 1 issued summons to Shilpa Shetty and Richard Gere. The case was filed by a Siwan lawyer and president of Bhojpuri Kranti Parishad, Ramji Singh.

On April 15, 2007, a private channel had shown a programme relating to AIDS control in which Shilpa and Gere had appeared. Singh said that Gere kissed Shetty on her lips several times, which was an indecent act. "It is a crime under Sections 294 and 500 of the IPC," Singh said.

Singh said that Section 294 mentions that one cannot show an indecent act publicly. Regarding Section 500, he said one cannot defame the President, governor and a woman through his vulgar acts.

Taking cognizance of the complaint petition, the court of first class magistrate on Monday issued summons to Shilpa, Gere, managing director, director and the then announcer of a private TV channel on which the show was presented, the lawyer said and added that the court also directed them to appear before it on September 7, 2011.
