CITU bandh affects life in Siliguri
Siliguri, Aug 2: Life in this commercial hub was today (Aug 2) affected during a CITU-organised dawn-to-dusk bandh with business establishments remaining closed and private vehicles off the roads. According to the additional superintendent of police A P Javagli, two stray incidents were reported during the bandh.
One bandh supporter was arrested for trying to implement the bandh forcefully. Bandh activists also damaged one auto-rickshaw near Fuleswari, Javagli said.
The bandh, called by the CPI(M)'s trade union wing and supported by CPI(M) and other Left organisations, was called in protest against the killing of CITU working president of Siliguri regulated Market Workers Employees Union, Rajkumar Yadav (54)and his associate Surendra Yadav(46) at the regulated market premises on July 30.
Surendra was shot dead by unidentified miscreants on July 30 and Rajkumar sustained bullet injury. Rajkumar succumbed to his injuries on Monday, Aug 1.
