“As soon as party central leaders told him to quit without laying any conditions, he decided to launch this campaign only to prove a point that there is no one who can succeed him in the true sense," said a source.
Yeddyurappa believes the hand of his rival in the BJP party over the fact that he was not given the liberty to choose his successor.
“He is expected to start his tour from the state BJP office in an open jeep, which is also part of his game plan to prove that he is the BJP"s loyal soldier. But, eventually, he may use the same campaign to build his own party if the rival camp or party central leaders try to sideline or ignore him at any stage," said the source.
He said that the campaign will be to meet leaders ignored or sidelined by his rivals.
“There are several leaders who have been suffering silently in the party. They are waiting for an alternative force to emerge. Mr Yeddyurappa will try to win their support during the tour. By undertaking such an elaborate exercise, he feels he can challenge the authority of the party state unit president at any given point of time," said the source.
The source also said that BSY hoped to divert the public attention by running a campaign from his indictment by the Lokayukta in the report and his involvement in the corruption cases.
“If his tour succeeds in achieving this, it would be difficult for central leaders to keep him away from party affairs for a long time," the source explained.
