Speaking on an opinion poll conducted by Anna's team, Arvind Kejriwal stated that the response to the Jan Lokpal Bill was overwhelming with as many as 85 per cent of the people favouring to bring the Prime Minister under the ambit of the Lokpal Bill.
Kejriwal commented, "The interim poll shows that majority are with our version of the Lokpal Bill. The people's view is that the Jan Lokpal Bill version should be accepted. What is to be seen is what (Union Telecom and HRD Minister) Kapil Sibal sees. There should be a public debate. There was an overwhelming respose of the people in Kapil Sibal's constituency."
Further stating the details of the poll by the team, he said that polls were conducted in Sibal's Lok Sabha constituency of Chandini Chowk and Amravati Lok Sabha constituency in Maharashtra. The findings said that almost 98 per cent of the people favoured the Jan Lokpal Bill.
Arvind Kejriwal asked in the press conference, "There has been a huge support for Jan Lokpal Bill. The question is that does the Government's Lokpal Bill gets the desired support of the people? If the Government is not listening to the people's view, is it democracy?"
Anna Hazare declared in the press conference that he would go ahead with his plan to fast from Aug 16 at Jantar Mantar and said that he would court arrest if he was not allowed to do so. He added, "The intention of the government is not right."
