Chennai, Jul 30: Hardening the rivalry between Jayalalithaa-led AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu and Karunanidhi-led DMK, police arrested DMK treasurer MK Stalin on Saturday, Jul 30 for allegedly staging road-roko to protest against government's actions against DMK leaders. UPDATE: MK Stalin released after detention.

Media reports said that MK Stalin, son of former Chief Minister Karunanidhi, was arrested from Tiruvarur district while protesting the arrest of DMK Tiruvarur District secretary Poondi Kalaivanan in connection with a case of forcing students to boycott schools demanding implementation of Samacheer Kalvi (Uniform System of School Education).

MK Stalin accused AIADMK government of framing false cases against DMK leaders. He said that the DMK party will carry on protest against government's actions.

Meanwhile, Karunanidhi also slammed the government over the arrest of his son MK Stalin. DMK supremo said that police action was a "political vendetta" and said that party will hold state-wide protest against the brutal actions.
