Olympic skier Jeret Peterson commits suicide
Peterson is believed to have shot himself near Salt Lake City on Tuesday. He was arrested three days prior on suspicion of drunken misdemeanor from Idaho. He was later released from the Blaine County Jail in Idaho on a $500 bail.
According to police reports, Peterson was arrested after he was caught speeding in his Dodge Dakota pickup through Hailey in south-central Idaho, at an estimated 70 miles per hour in a 25 mph zone. They further added that he failed three sobriety tests that included a walk and turn routine as well as a one-leg stand. He had pleaded not guilty on the charges leveled against him that included DUI (Driving under influence) and speeding.
His earlier brush with the law was when he was caught urinating in public in Boise in 2008. Idaho court records also state that he was alleged to have received stolen property in 2006 and pleaded guilty for theft then.
Peterson's career achievements include a silver medal in the men's freestyle aerials competition at the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver, Canada. Apart from this, he was also a full-time business student at Westminster College in Salt Lake City. He had decided not to compete in the 2012 season.
