Digvijay Singh
New Delhi, Jul 25: Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh is often in the news for all the wrong reasons and his statements often bordering on profanity has made him the recipient of ridicule and ire among those within the party and outside. But not it has emerged from his own submission that Congress President Sonia Gandhi ticked him off after he engaged in some provocative comments on Union Home Minister P Chidambaram.

Digvijay Singh was pulled up by Sonia when he criticised Chidambaram for his anti-Maoist strategy. He commented, "She (Gandhi) did tick me off and I went and apologised to Chidambaram." He made the frank revelation in a television progamme called 'Devil"s Advocate' on CNN-IBN.

The rousing comment that irked Sonia was when Digvijay called Chidambaram “intellectually arrogant" and termed his approach on the Maoist issue as a “narrow sectarian view, treating it as a purely law and order problem".

Often grabbing media headlines for his insensitive comments on just about any issue that finds space in media, for the interviewer of the tv programme's inquiry if his comments were bringing Rahul Gandhi bad name since Digvijay was his advisor, the Cong General Sect replied, "Absolutely wrong. I am neither an advisor nor a mentor to Rahul Gandhiji."

He added, "Who has said that I am a mentor to Rahul Gandhiji. No one in my party has said this to me."

On the other contentious issue that brought Digvijay Singh considerable embarrassment was his comments on the RSS in the aftermath of the Mumbai terror attacks on Jul 13. There were allegations that he was communalising terror, on this he declared that senior BJP leader L K Advani and his party should be held responsible for the same.
