Once in for human trafficking, Punjabi singer arrested again
The arrest came after the US embassy's assistant regional security officer registered a complaint with the police against the singer at the Chanakyapuri station.
In the complaint a woman named Anita had applied for visa claiming to be Mann's wife in 2008, but later it appeared that she was wife of Pawan Kumar.
"We arrested Mann in early July. He is now in judicial custody," said an officer.
According to the officer, Mann had helped Anita get a visa for US by providing fake marriage certificate and claiming that the couple have two children. The US Embassy became suspicious after the women applied for a visa again this year. While scanning her records and then including biometric scanning the truth came out.
"US embassy officials filed a complaint with the police after they discovered that this time around Anita had presented herself as the wife of one Pawan Kumar instead of Mann," said the officer.
Anita, who hails from Jalandhar, Punjab was questioned by the embassy officials and then later arrested when she confessed.
"She was arrested and sent to jail," said the officer.
"We asked Mann to join our investigations, but he kept rescheduling his meeting with the police. Finally, our team went to Mumbai and arrested the singer," said a source.
A case under IPC section 120 (B), 420, 468 and 471 and the Passports Act, 1967 have been registered by the police.
