The victim reached the city on Jul 16 to pursue a course in Pondicherry University. She was allegedly molested by the hostel security guard. Failed to endure such trauma, the girl decided to leave the country. On her way back to Chennai airport, the US student once again was allegedly sexually assaulted by a taxi driver on Wednesday, Jul 20.
Acting on the complaints filed by the victim, police detained the two accused. Police sources informed that the security guard, 20-year-old Sowhar Rahman requested the girl to charge his mobile. Later he entered her hostel room to bring back the phone. Police claimed that Rahman allegedly tried to molest the girl in the room, though she somehow managed to escape.
Later she hired a taxi for Chennai airport. The driver reportedly stopped the car at several places by claiming engine snags. The driver was accused of sexually molesting the girl on the way to the airport.
The incident brought another shame on Indians who always have been proud of their culture and customs and believe - Athiti devo bhavah (The guest is God' or 'Guest become God').
