Malappuram (Ker), Jul 23: Indian Union Muslim League has drawn up a scheme to build 151 houses to be donated for the less privileged sections as a memorial to the party's late leader Panakkad Sayid Muhammadali Shihab Thangal.
Beneficiaries of the scheme would be chosen based on their social and economic conditions, irrespective of caste or religion, IUML district president Panakkad Syid Sadiqali Shihab Thangal said here today.
"The late Thangal's life was one dedicated to uplift the poor and needy. So we have worked out this scheme as the most befitting tribute to his memory," IUML leaders said.
The houses would be built in 100 village panchyats and seven municipal towns in the district.
Each unit is estimated to cost Rs three lakh. Funds for building them would be mobilised by the village and municipal party committees seeking support from people of different walks of life and NRI organisations.
The scheme would be inaugurated simultaneously in 15 centres on August 5. The project is expected to be completed within 10 months, party leaders said.
