SC appoints 5-member committee for analysing treasure trove

Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 21: The Supreme Court has finally announced its decision on the opening of the contentious 'B' vault at the Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple in Kerala. The temple grabbed the limelight after riches worth an estimated Rs 1 lakh crore was found in the secret underground cellars that is believed to have been unopened for centuries.

The apex body has decide to appoint a five-member committee to analyse the worth of the massive treasure trove that has emerged from the temple cellars and appointed CV Anandabose as the Chairman of the committee. No decision was made on the opening of the B vault that was earlier barred from opening by the court.

The court also sought recommendations from the committee on the opening of the B vault. The other members of the committee are MV Nair, officer at the Archeological Survey of India, a representative from the Reserve Bank of India and a representative of the temple trust.

The bench also barred the media from speculation on the temple wealth that had garnered much attention in recent times. The decision on the display of the artefacts from the cellars have not been made yet.
