Meeting discusses strengthening Kerala's coastal security

Kochi, Jul 20: A meeting to review the coastal security of Kerala today (Jul 20) deliberated on the progress in stregthening coastal security framework.

The meeting, held at the Naval base, was chaired by Commodore M R Ajaykumar, Naval officer in charge of Kerala and was attended by representatives from all agencies involved in coastal security, a naval press release said.

The concerns and corrective actions discussed included streamlining transfer of ownership procedure of fishing boats, monitoring of boat building yards, issue of identity cards to fishermen, seaward defence of off shore assets and implementing International Ship and Port Facility Code in non-major ports of the state, the release said.

The meeting also decided to hold the next coastal security exercise during September/October, it added.

Representatives from Indian Coast Guard, Coastal district administrations, Kerala Police, Department of Fisheries, Ports, Customs, Intelligence Bureau were among those who attended the meeting.

Commodore Ajay Saxena, Chief Staff Officer (Operations) of Southern Naval Command also attended the meeting.
