Hina Rabbani Khar
Islamabad, Jul 19: According to media reports in Pakistan, Hina Rabbani Khar, 34, may be elevated as the new foreign minister of the country. It acquires significance in the light of the upcoming foreign-minister level talks between India and Pakistan which is scheduled to be held on July 26-27 at New Delhi.

According to the Geo News, Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has sent to President Asif Ali Zardari, the necessary papers to appoint Khar as the new foreign minister of the country.

It can be recollected that the post of Pakistan's foreign minister has been lying vacant ever since Shah Mahmood Quereshi was left out of the cabinet after a reshuffle earlier this year.

If she becomes the foreign minister of the country, then she will be the youngest foreign minister in the history of the Pakistan leaving behind Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, who was 35 when he took over the ministry in the Ayub Khan regime. Bhutto, latter went on to become the prime minister of the country.

India and Pakistani foreign ministers' scheduled talks were preceded by foreign secretary level talks in Islamabad on Jun 23-24. They discussed a host of issues including peace and security, Jammu and Kashmir, and promotion of friendly exchanges.
