Rape
Lucknow, Jul 16: Uttar Pradesh seems to be no place for the female population as yet another minor girl committed suicide after being allegedly beaten up and gang-raped in front of the entire village. The incident occurred in Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh on the morning of Jul 16.

The girl has left behind a suicide note.

According to reports, the girl was dragged by men believed to be close to a former MP, into a sugarcane firm and was raped in turns. Reports say that the men punished her because she was allegedly having an affair with her school teacher.

CNN-IBN quotes the girl's father as saying, "They dragged her into the fields and raped her. I was informed later on. We took her home. We were awake till around midnight. After we all slept off, she hanged herself with her dupatta."

Reports suggest that the local police failed to act until the media intervened. However, no arrests have been made so far.

Amit Chandra, the Superintendent of Police was quoted by CNN-IBN as saying, "The post mortem has been conducted. A case has been registered. We are investigating the matter."

This is the second such instance in Lakhimpur Kheri and the eighth in Uttar Pradesh in the last one month. In another such instance on Jun 12, a 14-year old girl was allegedly raped and killed by men in uniform inside a police station at Lakhimpur.
