She was quoted as saying in a press conference, “My constitutionally assured privacy has been irreparably and relentlessly breached by the acts of 'Sun TV Network" when they telecast a spuriously obtained tape and claimed it was me on Mar 2, 2010 (along with Swami Nithyananda)."
She also made allegations that certain parties demanded money from her to stop the telecast of such images that damaged her reputation. She also stated in the media that no consideration was given to the actual facts and by airing the images, the media channels failed in their credibility and failed to uphold a woman's honour.
On being asked by media persons on why she delayed filing a complaint when the issue first came to light in Mar 2010, she replied that she was being blackmailed from doing so. She also added that she was also threatened to be arrested if she came back to Chennai. In a veiled accusation, she declared that she did not believe there was an effective investigation during the DMK regime in Tamil Nadu.
Ranjitha, however refused to divulge the names of those she claims to have tried to blackmail her. But she added that those names will come out in the open and that she has requested the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and the Chennai Police Commissioner to take a speedy action on the case.
The Commissioner stated that the case would be probed by the Central Crime Branch.
