Cabinet Reshuffle 2011 today: Who is in, who is out?

New Delhi, Jul 12: The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi finally announced that the ruling UPA government will go for its cabinet reshuffle 2011 on Tuesday, Jul 12. The names of all ministers will be officially declared at 5 pm followed by the swear-in ceremony.

During his meeting with the editors, Manmohan Singh claimed that cabinet reshuffle will be the move to restrain all critics and opposition parties from claiming that UPA II "is the most corrupt" government. The PM has also vowed to remove under-performing ministers, and will induct of younger faces.

Sources said that the main four portfolios - union finance ministry, union home ministry, union defence ministry and union HRD ministry held by Pranab Mukherjee, P Chidabaram, AK Antony and Kapil Sibal will be untouched.

Who can be inducted and elevated in cabinet ranks?

Environment minister Jairam Ramesh, Vilasrao Deshmukh, AICC spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan could be placed at Jairam's position. Citing the upcoming assembly polls 2012, the government is expected to elevate minority affairs minister Salman Khurshid.

Law Minister Veerappa Moily, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni also can see a change in their respective portfolios holding at the union cabinet. Film actor Raj Babbar also can be inducted.

Who can be dropped?

Veteran Congressman from Assam, BK Handique; Sports Minister MS Gill and Minister for Tribal Affairs Kantilal Bhuria can be dropped from the cabinet.
