Telangana: Osmania Univ students to begin strike on Jul 11
The strike has been called by the Telangana Student Joint Action Committee (JAC).
The region witnessed a 4-day bandh as protestors demanded a separate state for Telangana and for the resignation of many ministers of the state.
Though the students of Osmania university are adamant on holding their strike, the police have already refused permission to the protestors for holding it.
Several students were arrested after the police seized the area, many of them coming from different parts of Hyderabad. Leaders from the Osmania University Joint Action Committee (OU JAC) were also arrested from hostels and campus, said officials.
Arrests were also made from Warangal, Karimnagar to stop the students from reaching Hyderabad.
"Prohibitory orders are in force till July 14 under section 144 CrPC in the limits of Hyderabad City Police Commissionerate and any unlawful assembly of five or more persons would be illegal," said AK Khan, Police Commissioner, Hyderabad.
The Supreme Court directive denied permission for outsiders to hold any meeting or any such activities in the campus apart from the students, non teaching staff and teaching staff from Osmania University, said Khan.
A peace committee appointed by the state government requested the students to carry out the strike maintaining normalcy and the students have also been requested to carry their ID proofs with them while campaigning.
The Osmania University has become the epicenter for the fight for a separate state - Telangana. Tension prevailed in the state after the students and the police clashed during the two-day-bandh on Jul 5 and 6.
