58 year old Army officer shot Dilshan on the head: CB-CID

Chennai, Jul 10: Retired Lieutenant Colonel and retired Army officer Kandaswamy Ramaraju has been named the culprit for the killing of 13 year old Dilshan for trespassing in to army premises in Island grounds. The CB-CID who is investigating the case termed it a "straight case" in their media briefing on the murder.

The CB-CID ADGP R Sekar in his briefing said that the retired army officer is a 58 year old officer retired on Apr 30th and is a native of Madurai. He also claimed that a 30 MI US springfield rifle was used in the firing and was a personal unlicensed weapon. The weapon was recovered later by the investigating officials.

Sekar also said in his press briefing that the recovery of the weapon was the most challenging and the crucial part in the cracking of the case. He said that scientific and physical evidence along with ballistic evidence was taken into consideration before zeroing in on the culprit. He also stressed the co-operation rendered to the investigative team by the Army personnel.

On the reasons behind the firing, the CB-CID officials commented that there was no provocation and the exact reasons still being verified. The culprit was on his way to Madurai when the investigative agency picked him up suspecting his involvement in the crime. The weapon used for the killing was recovered in the Coouam river in Chennai.

The accused person has been arrested and sent to remand, revealed Sekar.
