DMK-Cong tie intact, to be strengthened: Pranab
"There is lots of writing and speculation on DMK-Congress alliance continuing or not. The alliance is there and will continue, it will be strengthened," said the finance minister after his meeting with the DMK supremo on Saturday, Jul 9.
"I took the opportunity of calling down Karunanidhi and discuss the political situation in the country. It's a courtesy whenever I come to Chennai to meet Karunanidhi," Pranab added.
After Dayanidhi Maran's resignation as the textile minister, many started asking about DMK's blinking position in the UPA. Maran resigned on Thursday, Jul 7 after getting caught in the 2G spectrum net following the gathering of evidence by CBI establishing his involvement in the Aircel-Maxis deal.
Ahead of the crucial cabinet reshuffle, many believed that the meeting would leave profound impact on the decision of Manmohan Singh and others. However, sources also claimed that the DMK won't be pressing for replacements for Dayanidhi Maran or for former Telecom Minister A Raja which means the DMK is making its peace with holding just one cabinet berth now currently held by MK Alagiri.
