Madurai, Jul 9: Janata Dal (United) today said Congress was ''desperate'' to continue its alliance with DMK in Tamil Nadu as it was left with no other option after its efforts to woo BSP and Samajwadi Party appeared very bleak.

"With prospects of getting support of BSP and Samajwadi Party getting bleak, Congress has no other option except to continue its alliance with DMK and to retain the party in its fold," JD(U) national General Secretary Arunkumar Srivatsava told reporters here.

He opined that RJD leader Laloo Prasad Yadav may support the government and could be trying for a cabinet berth.

Earlier, speaking after attending a party's workers and executive members meet, he claimed JD(U) had grown well in Tamil Nadu, but that people were "unfortunately" choosing between DMK and AIADMK in the polls.
