Heavy rains in Mumbai
Mumbai, Jul 8: It's only a few days remaining for the Mumbaikars to begin their much-awaited Ganesh chaturthi 2011 celebrations. But it seems that weather god is not pleased as heavy rains lashed out the initial preparations of one of the biggest Hindu festivals.

Preparations for Ganesh Chaturthi, that begins from Sep 1 and continue for next ten days, have been stranded over heavy rain and the whole city is water-logged since last two days, as reports claim on Friday, Jul 8.

Trains and traffic have been disrupted over Mumbai rains. The Met department informed Colaba recorded 162.8 mm of rainfall and Santacruz received 116 mm of rainfall from 8.30 am on Thursday to 8.30 am Friday.

A Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) spokesperson said, "Due to sudden drop in visibility of 300 mtrs all flight operations were suspended at the international airport here between 1000 to 1017 hours. But now its all normal."

Orders for Ganesh idols have already been placed. Several organisers also have begun their preparations of making pooja pandals, but due to the bad weather, all plans have been kept in halt.

Complaints of water logging were reported from areas like Vileparle, Borivali, Kandivali, Malad, Andheri, Malad, Dharavi and many other areas. No incidents of house and wall collapse were reported, officials said.
