'One family-centric politics reponsible for corruption'

Rajnath Singh
Lucknow, Jul 7: Holding "one leader one family" centric politics responsible for increasing corruption in the country, said BJP's former national president Rajnath Singh. He added, "unless such political parties are rejected by the people corruption cannot be controlled."

"Unless one leader one family centric politics ends, effective check on corruption is not possible," Singh said in an interview with PTI on existing reverberation in country's politics over demand of a strong Lokpal Bill.

He said BJP was in the favour of a strong Lokpal as it would certainly check corruption at the top of the government.

"But an effective check would not be possible till the domination of one leader one family centric politics ends. For this besides creating awareness among people, there is a need to amend the People''s Representation Act," Singh said.

Without naming any political party, he said one can easily observe that with the increasing dominance of one leader one family centric political parties in the contry and in various states after 1970 the size of corruption and number of scams have increased.

"Otherwise no one could have thought of a scam of Rs 1.75 lakh crore in 2G spectrum case," he said.

Singh alleged that except BJP, JD (U) and upto an extent in Left parties, there was autocracy in almost all the political parties, whereas to check corruption internal democracy within the parties is important.

On being asked about reports of corruption from BJP-ruled states he said, "I am not giving clean chit to anyone... but those saying such things must show that against which exisiting former BJP chief minister a CBI inquiry into disproportionate assets case is being carried out."

On former BJP national president Bangaru Laxman being caught taking bribe on camera Singh said it was a conspiracy, but despite that he resigned on moral grounds.

On BJP's claim of being a party with difference, Singh said, "this is because in BJP even a common worker can become the national president, whereas in other parties counting ends from where it starts. This is not a minor difference."

Referring to reports of internal bickering among BJP leaders he said, "There is nothing like this... all are united on policies and issues."
