UP: Fatal collision between train-bus leaves 30 dead
According to initial reports, the train traveling from Mathura to Chapra in Bihar rammed into the bus carrying the marriage party. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had ordered an enquiry into the accident by the Railway Safety Commissioner.
The PM expressed grief over the tragedy and announced a ex-gratia relief of Rs 2 lakhs for the kin of all those killed and Rs 50,000 to those seriously injured and Rs 10,000 for those who have minor injuries.
Manmohan Singh also ordered the Railway Board Chairman Vinay Mittal to reach the venue of the accident. The Prime Minister currently holds the portfolio of Railways. Rescue operations have concluded under the guidance of the District Magistrate and the SP who were present at the site.
Selva Kumari, DM, Kanshi Ram Nagar commented, “The rescue operation is over. 31 bodies were found and 25 were injured in the bus-train collision at Kanshiram Nagar accident. All the injured are admitted in a hospital the Etah district."
