Telangana leaders hold a meeting with Pranab Mukherjee

New Delhi, Jul 6: The mounting tension and agitation in Telangana over the sentiment for a separate state is hoped to mollify when the Telangana leaders met Pranab Mukherjee at his residence and the discussions continued till late in the Tuesday night, Jul 5. The Telangana MLAs and MPs earlier had a meet with Ghulam Nabi Azad in order to explain him as to why they had put in their papers and also demanded an early decision by the Centre on the separate state issue.

The lawmakers are believed to have told Mukherjee that they were ready for open discussions with the high command over this crucial issue. They are believed to have told him that their resignations were basically to convey the sentiments of the people to the Centre.

After the meeting of the Telangana MLAs and MPs with Azad, he told, “They told me that since the Centre did not take any decision, they were under pressure from people to resign. They are ready for dialogue". “We won"t jump straightaway to an all-party meeting, we will have to first talk to people of Andhra Pradesh and people of other political parties and different regions," he said.

The Telangana Congress leaders" delegation comprising Minister K Jana Reddy and others met Sonia Gandhi"s political secretary Ahmed Patel at Union Minister S Jaipal Reddy"s residence on Tuesday, Jul 5.
