Honour Killing: Dalit boy killed by girlfriend's family

Ludhiana, Jul 6: The family members of a Jat Sikh girl kidnapped and allegedly murdered a Dalit boy with whom the girl was involved in a love affair. The girl, who had been at her cousin's house in Theekriwala village of Barnala district was traced by the police on Tuesday, Jul 6.

The cops had arrested the woman who allegedly took the girl to this place, though the mysterious identity of this lady is yet to be revealed. DIG Paramraj Singh Umranangal said that the teenaged girl would be handed over to her parents after an interrogation.

Gagandeep's dead body was found in a canal near Bhadni Kalan village, 25 km from Jagraon, on Monday, Jul 4. The DIG said that the people involved in this cold-blooded murder were Billu, girl's cousin, Surjit Singh of Lakha village, Saudagar Singh, the girl's uncle, and a third person named Gurcharan Singh. The police have registered a supplementary FIR on Monday, Jul 4 on these accused.

The DIG also added, "Inderjit Singh, SHO, city police station, had been sent to Police Lines and a department inquiry marked into the charges levelled against him by family members of the deceased youth, Gagandeep Singh."

Gurcharan Singh, father of the deceased alleged that his son's (Gagandeep) life could have been saved and spared if the police would have taken quick action on his complaint about kidnapping.

After autopsy, Gagandeep's body was handed over to his family members. After Gagandeep was cremated at Jat Pura village, his family members staged a protest in front of the SSPs office on Tuesday, Jul 5 demanding immediate arrest of the accused.
