Telangana Bandh: Tension prevails in Osmania University

Hyderabad, Jul 5: Osmania University, the hot-bed of the T' agitation on Tuesday, Jul 5 witnessed tension and violence when the cops fired teargas shells in order to disperse the students, trying to take out rally over the 48 hour Telangana bandh.

The students who started up with a rally from Arts College were stopped by the police at NCC Gate in view of ban orders in the city. The students clashed with the cops and threw stones at them and paramilitary Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel.

Another group of students, raising 'Jai Telangana' slogans and demanding resignation of all MPs and legislators from the region tried to take out a rally from Tarnaka Gate but were again stopped by the police.

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders N. Janardhan Reddy and Harishwar Reddy were also taken into custody by the police force when they tried to enter the campus to support a group of students who were on fast for the last six days.

The students have brought in protest over the Telangana agitation back to Osmania University, after a gap of four months.
