Cong ward prez arrested for rape, circulating obscene MMS

Mumbai, Jul 5: Police arrested a Congress ward president for allegedly raping a college student and circulating her obscene MMS video clip on internet.

According to Police, the 43-year-old Pralayad Lokhande, president of the north-east district Congress committee at Ward No. 128 in Kamraj Nagar at Ghatkopar (East), was arrested for allegedly kidnapping and raping a 19-year-old college student of Somaiya College.

The accused allegedly recorded the video of the brutal act and blackmailed her. Later he circulated the MMS clip to maculate her and her family"s reputation.

The victim said that Lokhande kidnapped her and took to a temple and forcibly married her. Later he raped her in a lodge in Thane and shot a video of the act. The victim also added that he circulated the MMS video and last week only she came to know about her MMS clip. Then her family decided to give a written complaint to the Mumbai Police Commissioner.

The victim filed a complaint in Pant Nagar police station and police charged case under sections 376, 494, 501 and 506 of the IPC. Lokhande was remanded in police custody till Jul 8 by the local court on Monday, Jul 4.

"Lokhande has many criminal complaints registered against him at the Pant Nagar police station," said Assistant Police Inspector S Kasar from the Pant Nagar police station.
