Rahul Gandhi visited the house of the victim, who was allegedly raped and found dead inside Lakhimpur Kheri police station. Rahul assured the family that criminals will be brought under justice.

Mayawati government was under severe pressure after reports of increased rape incidents from different part of the state. In less than two weeks, more than 10 rape cases has been reported.

Earlier on Jun 27, protest march conducted by Congress party had ended in fight between the security forces abd party workers. Just hours after Congress announced 'Nyaya' march in Lucknow against the alleged spurt in crimes in Uttar Pradesh., Mayawati declared Section 144, which prohibits assembly of five or more persons, holding of public meetings, carrying of firearms and can be invoked for up to two months.
