Congress leaders rebuff Maya's Sec 144 in UP, lathicharged
The agitating Congress leaders, who were ready to face court-arrest, were brutally lathicharged by the UP police. It seems that Congress and Mayawati have been confronted in an open war ahead of the assembly polls 2012.
The escalating crime instances in the state have reached its peak with the "murder" of Dr YS Sachan. Deputy Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr Yogendra Singh Sachan on Jun 22 reportedly committed suicide and that too under the nose of the security personnel of Lucknow jail. Sachan was the prime accused in the murder case of Family Welfare CMO, Dr BP Singh.
Mayawati, trying to root out Congress' plan to start anti-state government agitation, imposed section 144 in Lucknow on Monday. Section 144 prohibits assembly of five or more persons, holding of public meetings, carrying of firearms and can be invoked for up to two months.
However, the Congress leaders ruled out Mayawati's stunt to curb all protest against her government and began "Nyaya Yatra" against the alleged spurt in crimes in Uttar Pradesh.
