Jyotirmoy Dey
Mumbai, Jun 27: The Mumbai Police claim to have achieved a breakthrough in the murder case of senior journalist Jyotirmoy Dey. They have arrested seven people and reports cite police sources as saying that the case appeared to be one of contract killing in which members of the Chhota Rajan gang are suspected of being involved.

The Mumbai Police Commissioner is likely to hold a press conference later in the day on June 27 to inform the progress made so far.

Reports inform that the seven people arrested in the matter hail from the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka. They were all arrested after the questioning of more than 70 suspects by the Mumbai Police.

On Jun 11, Dey, a senior crime journalist with the Mumbai-based tabloid Mid Day, was shot dead by a group of unidentified men outside a shopping mall in Powai on June 11.

Mumbai police probed at both personal and professional enmity as the motive behind the killing. Several angles including the involvement of the oil mafia and even cops that J Dey had written about in his new reports, were investigated into. An Assistant Commissioner of Police was also questioned in the case.
