"Governments all around the world encourage peasants to boost agricultural produce but it is only in Congress'' rule that land tillers are made victims of exploitation," BJP national vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said.
"The government is keen to throw the peasantry into a century-old practice of ploughing bullocks... You will not be able to purchase diesel at this unbearably high rate, so be prepared to dump your tractors," he told farmers at Panwaria village here.
Describing Congress as a party of "sycophants", Naqvi said the present government's rule was worse than the Emergency days.
"On the one hand multinationals and land mafias dominate the political scenario, while on the other common people struggle for mere existence," he claimed.
The UPA government's decision to raise the prices of kerosene by Rs 2 per litre, LPG by Rs 50 per cylinder and diesel by Rs 3 a litre has been criticised by opposition parties with protests being staged all over the country.
