Pakistan grills four army majors over militant links
The 4 army officers in question are being grilled for their suspected links with militant group Hizb-ut-Tahrir (HT), said a report in the daily Dawn.
"Four other officers are being questioned for their alleged links with HT," said Athar Abbas, Director General Major, Inter-Services public relations director to the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation.
Brigadier Ali Khan, who was posted at General Headquarters was apprehended on Jun 21 for his suspected links with militant oraganisation HT. Brig Khan is the highest ranking official who has been picked up by the government for his alleged ties with terrorist groups.
Though HT has not backed up violence and has no apparent links with al- Qaeda, the group wants to restitute position and overturn the 'corrupt, pro-West' governance in Muslim countries.
The four officers who were arrested were not posted at the General Headquarters, said Gen Abbas to the Dawn and warned that the penetration by terror groups into the army could prove to be "harmful for entire nation and national security".
According to military sources, Brig Khan along with the four arrested army officers could be a part of big conspiracy.
