Home Ministry directs CBDT to probe ex-CJI KGB's assets
KG Balakrishnan, who is currently the Chairman of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), was in news after a retired High Court judge claimed that Balakrishnan was "approachable" when he (KGB) was the CJI.
Even though KG Balakrishnan rejected these allegations, media reports alleged that Balakrishnan and his family members have wealth that is disproportionate to their known sources of income.
According to a report in CNN IBN, the CBDT decided to investigate KGB's assets after senior lawyer Prashant Bhushan wrote to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram. Prashant Bhushan's letter has details of Balakrishnan's assets that were reportedly declared undervalued.
The report added that if financial misconduct is proven then the matter will be forwarded to the President for sanction to prosecute Balakrishnan.
