DMK playing tit-for-tat? Supports PM under LokPal purview
The UPA government is at loggerheads with the Anna team after they failed to reach a consensus on a combined LokPal draft. The most contentious issue among the many others is the inclusion of the Prime Minister and the judiciary under the ambit of the proposed LokPal bill.
The DMKs stand on the issue was revealed by Parliamentary Party Leader T R Baalu in a meeting called by the UPA.
With the party maintaining they were always for the PM to fall under the anti-corruption ombudsman, the Congress is not in favour of the move. The Opposition, some of the Congress allies and the Left have vehemently supported the move.
The government has expressed readiness to put the PM under scrutiny only after he demits office as they feel that any act on complaints against the PM during his term in office will hamper the governance and pose as a security risk. The government draft that was made public has excluded the PM under the bill's ambit.
