UP witnesses another grisly crime; minor girl raped, blinded


Kannauj, Jun 19: In a shocking case from Uttar Pradesh, a minor girl was raped and later blinded. The case that could cause uproar and question the utter lawlessness and anarchy in the state, such violent incidents of crime are being reported from UP, a state that has a woman adorning the chair of Chief Minister.

UP is still recovering from news of the brutal rape of the minor girl who was then found hanging from a tree near the police station premises. The incident had caused shock and awe among citizens and garnered immense media attention.

Preeti, is the name of the 14-year-old girl who was subject to such brutality and merciless crime in Ghur-purwa village of Kannauj in UP. Two men, Kuldeep Loniya and Niranjan Yadav who apparently tried to rape her on Saturday morning, blinded her by stabbing both her eyes when she resisted. She was dragged into the fields by the duo on Saturday and after she put up a fight during the rape attempt, she was assaulted and later blinded.

The villagers found her in the fields and was rushed to the district hospital. Doctors have confirmed that she has lost complete vision in her left eye and the cornea in her right eye is severely damaged.

Doctors treating her said, “The left eye is completely damaged. The inner parts of the eye are severely damaged. The Cornea is badly damaged, may not come back to its normal condition."

The two accused are absconding with a case being filed against them for rape and attempt to murder. Two policemen, a constable and a sub-inspector have been suspended for not taking timely action of registering an FIR when the girl was brought to the police station.

This incident comes close on the heels of the Lakhimpur Kheri incident that saw the rape and alleged murder of the 14 year old Sonam near the Nighasan police station. The incident had also penalized them with 11 policemen being placed under suspension.
