PM in Lokpal: Anna's fast threat fails to frighten Cong,Govt
Congress President Sonia Gandhi called a core party meeting as soon as she returned from foreign tour on Jun 17. Sources informed that the party discussed on the fuss between civil society members and government representatives in Lokpal panel but no consensus have been made.
However, some media report quoted a Congress leader as saying, "Let the draft come first. We will give our opinion then." Congress general secretary, Digvijay Singh once voiced for inclusion of the PM in Lokpal's ambit, though he too took a U-turn and left the decision to the joint committee panel on Lokpal.
Citing government's apathy to agree with their (civil society's) demands, Anna Hazare had reiterated his will to resume fast from Aug 16, but now, it seem that the crusaders failed to touch the Congress as well as the government.
The seventh meeting of the Lokpal panel had failed and telecom minister Kapil Sibal said that two different drafts will be tabled before the union cabinet if the next meeting on Jun 20 and 21 fails again to break the deadlock.
