MiD DAY scribe dead:Mum journalists to start fast-unto-death
Expressing their unhappiness towards Maharashtra chief minister's Prithviraj Chavan's statement on statement on MiD DAY journalist Jyotirmay Dey's murder case, the agitated scribes announced that they will start their hunger strike from Jun 15.
The protesters said that they will initiate their strike at Azad Maidan, Mumbai on Jun 15 from 9 am to protest and bring the state government under pressure and take action against the cases of rising number of attacks on media.
According to Mumbai Police sources, they have found some clues in the journalists murder. Crime Branch teams have also been sent outside Mumbai to further investigate into the matter.
Many people in Mumbai along with local criminals and underworld sources are being interrogated in the case, said sources. Sources also reveal that a pistol could also have been possibly used to murder Dey.
In a breakthrough in the case, Mumbai police on Monday, Jun 13 unearthed the first sketch of a suspect in the case.
Dey was killed by four unidentified assailants outside his Mumbai residence on Saturday, Jun 11. Suspecting oil mafia's hand behind the murder, the protesting journalists asked state government to expose oil mafia and appoint CBI. However, Chavan rejected their proposal to accept that.
The demand asking for the resignation of Mumbai Police Commissioner and the Home Minister of Maharashtra was also rejected by Chavan.
