Investigation on after Mid Day Crime reporter murdered

Mumbai, June 12: The Mumbai Police have promised to look into the matter of the prominent newspaper crime reporter, Jyotirmoy Dey, who was killed in a drive-by shooting near his home.

Jyotirmoy Dey, a senior journalist with an English tabloid, Mid Day who was shot dead in broad daylight by four unidentified bike-men who pumped five bullets on him from behind in suburban Powai on Saturday, June 11.

Jyoti Dey, wrote extensively on underworld crime for a long time.

Arup Patnaik, Mumbai police said that Jyoti Dey's murder shook the tinsel town media and the murder was a professional hit by crime gangs.

Prithviraj Chavan, Maharashtra Chief Minister said,"We are taking a very serious view of this" The media plays an important role in democracy and efforts to terrorise them will be foiled." Infact he promised that all steps would be taken to ensure that journalists are able to perform their duty without fear.

Dey wrote on Mumbai crime for last 22 years, over two decades. He had previously worked in Indian Express and the Hindustan Times. Sachin Kalbag, Mid-Day editor said," Dey was an honest reporter of great integrity and It is evident that Dey was a victim of his fearless journalism".
