Karuna says Brahmins and not spectrum reason for poll loss
Pained by the involvement of Kanimozhi and A Raja, two emerging names from the DMK camp embroiled in the 2G scam, Karunanidhi seem to be looking for a name to lay the blame on his election debacle. He has named "Brahmins" responsible for this.
Speaking to reporters following the high-level committee meeting to discuss the future of the DMK-Congress alliance was when Karunanidhi claimed that the Brahmins were responsible for his defeat. He has always been known for his tirade against the upper-caste Brahmin community when cornered.
The former CM of Tamil Nadu said, "It"s not spectrum that defeated the DMK in the elections; it"s due to attempts by some Brahmins."
The DMK Chief also slammed the CBI for its "double standards" in dealing with the spectrum probe with the DMK resolution taking a similar stand that said, "Legal experts say that the CBI did wrong linking a business transaction (between Kalaignar TV and DB Realty) to spectrum case. The CBI action is condemnable."
With members within the party divided on what stand the DMK ought to take, there were reports that Karunanidhi's sons and others wanted to keep the alliance intact. It was only Veerapandi Arumugam who wanted a strong stand be initiated against the Congress.
With Jayalalithaa hell-bent on making matters difficult for DMK, the latest being Jayalalithaa's announcement of a judicial probe into irregularities in the construction of the new Assembly complex that was constructed during Karunanidhi's tenure as CM.
