Chennai, Jun 9: M Karunanidhi led DMK is all set to snap ties with its seven year old political ally Congress, said a report. Speculations have been rife that the alliance would fall by the wayside after the Delhi High Court rejected the bail plea of the DMK patriarch's daughter Kanimozhi in the 2G spectrum scam case.

India Today has reported that the DMK Chief M Karunanidhi is giving the option of walking out of the Congress-led coalition, a serious thought. It also says that the DMK high-level committee meeting on Jun 10 is expected to discuss the possibility of breaking up with Congress take a decision in that regard.

Earlier, during the occassion of his 88th birthday, Kalaignar as Karunanidhi is referred to in Tamil Nadu had hinted in this direction and said, "Cadres who have dedicated themselves to social and political renaissance should keep going without forgetting that bad friendship would end in trouble."

Kanimozhi, Karunanidhi's daughter has been in the Tihar jail for almost two weeks now without a sign of getting bail anytime soon. With his grand nephew Dayanidhi Maran too coming under the spotlight for his alleged excesses during his tenure as the Union Telecom Minister, and the axis of enquiry still pointing at his wives shares in the family-owned TV channels, Karunanidhi is surely under the pump from political opponents and friends alike.

And adding that to the humiliating loss it suffered in the hands of AIADMK in the recently concluded Tamil Nadu assembly polls, Congress is now almost certain to wash its hands off the 2g enquiry process. It can only mean that if guilty the DMK leader's family and party members can't find a way out due to the lack of any coalition compulsion on Congress.
