Will Maran succumb to 2G scam?Jayalalithaa wants resignation
Bringing the Prime Minister in the 2G accusation spectrum, the Tamil Nadu CM claimed that Manmohan Singh should ask Maran to resign from his post for his alleged role in the 2G spectrum scam.
Earlier, Tehelka in its report claimed that he (Maran) favoured telecom licenses to certain telecom companies and denied licenses to certain others. The report also states that the forced delay led to telecom company Aircel striking a deal with Maxis that has invested heavily in Sun TV, that is owned by the Maran family.
Media reports on Tuesday showed that Maran also threatened to sue the magazine claiming that the Tehelka report is "absurd".
Sources informed on Wednesday that M Karunanidhi led DMK will soon conduct a high level party meeting in which they will decide about Maran's future.
However, after all these fresh allegations against the textile minister, Maran kept himself away and has been mum on the latest controversy. It seems that Maran, grand nephew of former Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi went underground.
This was not the first time when Maran was being criticised by Jayalalithaa. After Raja's resignation from telecom minister's post, the AIADMK chief had claimed, "Resignation of Raja is not the end of 2G controversy, it"s just the beginning. The scam reached Himalayan heights during Raja"s tenure, his predecessors and his nephew Dayanidhi Maran. So Maran should be interrogated too."
