2G: Sack Maran if he refuses to resign, BJP tells PM
Maran, who seems to be the new casualty in the 2G spectrum scam, had allegedly favoured telecom licenses to certain telecom companies and denied licenses to certain others. The report also states that the forced delay led to telecom company Aircel striking a deal with Maxis that has invested heavily in Sun TV, that is owned by the Maran family.
BJP, demanding Maran's immediate resignation, urged the Prime Minister, "sack him (Maran) if he delays to table his resignation." The same tune was heard from Jayalalithaa when the CM said, "I am quite sure the Prime Minister would know what has to be done and I am sure he would do it. The Prime Minister should ask for Maran's resignation from the cabinet. I am sure the PM will do it, if he has not already done it."
BJP also demanded CBI investigation into Maran's alleged role in the second generation telecom scam which caused the nation a whopping Rs 1.76 lakh crore.
"Why is govt silent on Maran issue?," asked the main opposition party while hurling its attack on the ruling UPA government led by Congress.
