Assam: Two accidents in a day, 36 confirmed dead

Dispur, May 31: At least 36 people were killed  and many injured in two different bus accidents that took place in Assam.

The first accident took place in Hajo when a bus carrying a wedding party fell into a gorge killing at least 31 people and the bridegroom when the bus was on its way from Guwahati to Tihu. The injured were rushed to the nearest hospital.

The second accident happened when an oil tanker collided with a bus in Bokakhat near Kaziranga National Park, leaving 22 people seriously burnt.

"The driver of the bus must have dozed off," said Swapnanil Deka, a senior police official.

The rescue operations are on at both the places.
